Privacy policy

Two things are covered here: this website, and the BPMcountR Android app. Neither of them collects anything about you. What follows is the detail behind that sentence.
This website
What it does not do
- No cookies, no local storage, no tracking, no analytics, no advertising.
- No sign-up, no accounts, no contact form.
- Apart from the reach measurement described below, it loads nothing from another server — no web fonts, no CDN scripts, no embedded badges or videos.
- The tap counter on the front page runs entirely in your browser. Your taps, and the tempo they produce, are never transmitted anywhere and are gone when you close the tab.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, operated by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. To deliver a page at all, Cloudflare's servers process your IP address, the address you requested, the time of the request and the identifier your browser sends about itself, and retain it for a short period to deliver the site and to defend it against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — the legitimate interest in operating a website that stays reachable. Cloudflare's data processing addendum applies, and Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
This is not something I can switch off without also switching off the website.
Measuring reach
How many people find this page is measured with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookie, stores no identifier, and cannot recognise you — not here on a second visit, and not on any other site. What it counts is page views, the site you arrived from, the country and a rough device class: figures about the page, not about you.
The measurement script is loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com, run by the same Cloudflare that already hosts this page, so no further party is involved. Legal basis Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — the legitimate interest in knowing whether the page is read at all. There is no consent banner, because § 25 TDDDG is about storing or reading information on your device and this does neither.
Links to Google Play
The download buttons are ordinary links, and the Google Play badge images are served from this site rather than from Google. Nothing reaches Google until you actually follow the link — at which point Google's privacy policy takes over.
The BPMcountR app
Summary
- The app uses no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting.
- All data stays locally on your device.
- The app transmits no data to the internet.
- No personally identifiable information is collected.
What is stored on your device
The app uses your device's local storage to save:
- Settings — theme, language, haptics, sound, auto-reset timer, display preferences, app mode
- BPM history — timestamped measurements with the names and comments you give them
- Pro status — whether the Pro upgrade has been purchased, cached from the platform store
This data never leaves your device unless you export it yourself.
Microphone
Listen Mode (a Pro feature) uses the microphone to find the beat in music playing nearby. The audio is analysed in real time, in memory only — nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted. Access requires your explicit permission and can be withdrawn at any time in your device settings.
In-app purchase
The app offers a one-time Pro upgrade through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by the platform store; the app never sees or stores payment or billing details.
Import and export
You can export your history as CSV and import history from CSV or JSON. Export writes a local file, shared through your device's own share dialog or saved to your Downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded to any server — where the file goes is entirely your choice.
Network
The app makes no background network requests. Network activity happens only when a purchase is processed by Google Play, or when you tap a link that opens a website in your browser.
Permissions
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — for Listen Mode, requested only when you use the feature
- Billing (com.android.vending.BILLING) — for the in-app purchase
No others. The app does not access contacts, location, camera or photos.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to complain to a supervisory authority — for this site that is the Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg.
In practice there is very little for such a request to find: there is no account, no profile and no database on my side. What the app knows about you is on your own device, and deleting the app deletes it.
